Did You Know?

At VIOC, we believe in making learning and self improvement a way of life. We believe that increasing awareness of motor vehicle safety, from all aspects, is everyone’s job. Not only protecting your engine from damage, but protecting yourself from the dangers of the road and the dangers of being a consumer in the ever changing automotive industry.
Here are just a few facts that we find interesting and thought we would share with our members about safety, both on and off the road:

  • Preventative maintenance is everything. Replacing a clogged air filter can increase fuel efficiency by 10%. A misfiring spark plug can reduce fuel efficiency by as much as 30%. Using the manufacturer\'s recommended grade of motor oil can improve your gas mileage by 1-2%. Get your battery checked A well maintained vehicle saves you money, reduces harmful emissions and makes the roads safer for everyone.

  • Avoid quick starts & aggressive driving. A smooth, steady speed saves gasoline & reduces wear and tear on the engine, tires, transmission & brakes. Aggressive driving & quick starts increase fuel consumption by as much as 39%. You only save 2.5 minutes for every hour spent on the road when you drive aggressively.

  • The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act and the general principles of the Federal Trade Commission, prohibits a manufacturer from voiding the vehicle warranty because service was done by a non-dealer.   It is strongly recommended to keep records of all aftermarket services done to your vehicle, to prevent a warranty claim issue. You can contact any VIOC for your maintenance records. We’ll provide you copies of all your service records at any of our locations. Protect yourself against getting fooled or taken advantage of.

  • The simplest way to check tire tread depth is with a penny. Insert the penny into the grooves of the tread. If you are able to see all of Lincoln\'s head, the tire needs replacement.

  • Regardless of care, brakes should most likely be replaced every 20,000- 30,000 miles. Also, how and where someone drives will greatly influence when brakes should be replaced.

  • In the world of automotive emergencies, motorists need to learn certain procedures for \"safety\'s sake.\" Two of the most valuable lessons, changing a tire and hooking up jumper cables are best learned before an emergency arises. Try checking a “how-to” site, or ask a friend who knows for a tutorial. If you are in a bind, you’ll be glad you did, or perhaps can lend a hand when someone is in need.
