Pre Trip Checklist
Before a long trip for pleasure or business, there are some basic checklists all drivers should consider before hitting the road. At every Valvoline Instant Oil Change service, we’ll check the following:
- Oil
- Transmission fluid
- power steering fluid
- brake fluid
- air cleaner/filter
- tire pressure
- unusual wear on tires
- windshield wipers and wiper fluid
- lights (headlights, high beams, tail lights, emergency hazard lights, backing lights, and turn signals)

Spare Tire - Ever forgotten to replace your spare? At VIOC, we’ll check your spare’s pressure during service.
Put together a small basic car “tool kit” including:
- Screw Driver - Both a philips head and a regular screwdriver
- Lug Wrench and Jack – check for your model specific ones
- Hubcap Key – (if necessary per model)
- Air Pressure Gauge
- Pliers and/or an adjustable wrench
- Knife
- Jumper Cables
- Funnel
- Spare rag
Just in Case
Here is a list of items that are key to stock before any road trip, “just in case”:
- Duct Tape
- Flash Light with extra batteries
- Road Flares
- Bike Pump
- Extra Fuses
- Water and any essential fluids (oil, transmission, coolant, washer fluid, water)
- A good blanket
- Cell Phone and Charger
- Owners manual
- Emergency money!
Fill a small backpack with water, energy bars, and a first aid kit.
